Is St. Francis Career College accredited?

Yes. SFCC is nationally accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC), by the California Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT), and approved by the California Department of Health Services (CDHS). SFCC has also entered into a voluntary agreement with the Director of the California Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA).

Are the instructors qualified?

Yes. The program instructors for the program are certified and/or licensed by the required approval agencies.

What if I do not have a high school diploma or GED certificate?

Proof of high school completion or a GED is a requirement for our nursing programs. Our Step-Up! Program can assist you in completing your GED.

What if I have a foreign high school diploma?

You must have the document officially translated to the United States of America Education Standards, via a NACES-member service. For further details, contact the Admissions Office.

What is the main reason applicants are denied acceptance to SFCC?

We seek individuals who can succeed at college-level coursework. Our nursing programs are rigorous and challenging, and demand discipline and readiness. Only those individuals who have met all the admissions requirements and gained the minimum amount of selection criteria points are considered for acceptance.

What can I do to prepare for the programs at SFCC?

Complete your basic community college coursework— especially college-level English and math.

What does math have to do with nursing?

Math is vitally important for drug calculations, dosage, and equivalencies.

Doesn’t SFCC have a RN program?

At this time St. Francis does NOT have an RN program. We have a collaborative partnership with East Los Angeles College (ELAC) to bridge some of our graduates and other associates into their program.

Why is SFCC so expensive? What does the cost include?

Our programs’ competitive costs include equipment, supplies, books, uniform and other apparel, as well as tuition. SFCC also offers a variety of student services and remedial assistance that goes beyond mere educational training. Please refer to a program fee sheet for details.

Why uniforms?

A hospital is a uniform-based environment. Having our students in uniform allows them to focus on their studies and be recognized for the training they are receiving. Besides looking smart and savvy, it distinguishes them as SFCC students.

What is so unique or special about SFCC?

St. Francis Career College is a ministry of the Vincentian Daughters of Charity Health System (DOCHS) and a branch of St. Francis Medical Center. We provide a values-based education that takes a whole person approach: body, soul, mind and spirit. We integrate the career, personal and social skills needed to seek careers in the healthcare field.

What is the VICTORY program?

The Values in Collaborating, Training and Orienting for Retaining You (VICTORY) program assists students in meeting theory and clinical objectives through tutoring, study groups, and other activities with one-on-one participation.

What is the one-minute rule?

You cannot be late for class or for clinical. Period.

Do you have Financial Aid?

Yes. SFCC participates in the Federal Student Grant and Loan Program. Please feel free to complete an FAFSA available at our office or via the World Wide Web: www.fafsa.ed.gov and list St. Francis Career College as the school you wish to attend (school code #033593).

Does SFCC offer job placement assistance?

Yes. Our Workforce Development Coordinator markets the alumni not only to St. Francis Medical Center, but also in other job openings in the medical field. Job placement is not guaranteed for students/alumni; it is a resource that assists students in finding employment.
